Lawrence Man Accused in Attempted Abduction May Plead Not Guilty By Reason of Insanity

Tony Kadyrhob has been banned from setting foot on any school or university property in New Jersey.

A 70-year-old Lawrence Township man who attempted to kidnap a Rider University student in 2011 may be found not guilty by reason of insanity, nj.com reports.

Tony Kadyrhob was indicted by a Mercer County grand jury on charges of third-degree luring in 2011, but was subsequently deemed unfit to stand trial and has spent the last year in Trenton Psychiatric Hospital, according to nj.com.

Kadyrhob attempted to abduct a 19-year-old female student at Rider. After posting bail, he was spotted on the campus of The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) and, a short time later, near Princeton University.

He’s been ordered to periodically return to court for competency assessments, with his next one scheduled for Aug. 19, according to the report.

His attorney told nj.com she might enter a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity on behalf of her client if he is forced to stand trial.

If the court rules in favor of this plea, Kadyrhob may be committed to a psychiatric facility. If deemed insane at the time of the crime, but is deemed no longer insane, he may be free to go, according to the report.
