Lawrence Lacrosse Club Finishes First Fall Season

The Lawrence Lacrosse Club completed their first fall program with a successful showing at the Princeton Turkey Shootout (a 5 vs. 5 boys lacrosse tournament) on November 9th. The fifty-five boys who participated in the competitive program practiced and scrimmaged on Saturday nights over nine weeks this fall. The coaches were pleased that so many new players tried the sport and were also happy that veteran players were able to continue to develop their skills in the off-season.

The Princeton Turkey Shootout, a benefit tournament held in memory of Princeton native Bobby Campbell, was a terrific capstone to the fall. Before the games began, players heard a moving speech about Bobby and were encouraged to always support the values of good sportsmanship, integrity and fair play in his honor. All profits from the tournament were donated to the Trenton Bridge Lacrosse Program.

Lawrence was one of only three clubs that fielded a team in all three age groups at the tournament. The teams performed well and coaches were proud to watch the players win ground balls, connect passes, back each other up on defense, and play as a team. Players who typically play field positions including, Andrew Duff, Sam Bevington, Robbie Lynch, Jack Collins, Ryan Cimmino, Zeke D’Ascoli and Matthew McChesney, demonstrated true sportsmanship by volunteering to play goal.

The 7th/8th grade team competed successfully against some of the best clubs in the area.  The 3rd/4th grade team played well and finished third in their age group.  The 5th/6th grade team won three straight pool games and then lost a tough championship game.  They ultimately finished second among 10 tournament teams.

In addition to the competitive program, thirty younger boys and girls participated in a Little Laxers program on Saturday afternoons this fall. The clinics focused on teaching the fundamentals of lacrosse through fun games. Coaches Dan Brennan and Matt Foret led the program with assistance from Danny Ventresca, Aaron Duff, Tony Muzi, Scott Tennant, Chris Muzi and Rob Lynch. Coaches and players all had a great time!
