June 30th is most certainly a typo. As you'll see on the attached calendar, the correct last day is Friday, June 20th. My apologies for the panic that most certainly caused. Clearly, I lost my mind for a moment there.

On the Blog Post Letter to the Editor: The 3.8% Garbage Tax and the Fiscal Cliff

ReplyIf the ordinance is approved and a flat annual fee is assessed against all property owners for bulk trash pickup, you would not have to pay additional fee to dispose of an item. This point is addressed in the following email that was sent over the weekend by Lawrence Township Councilwoman Cathleen Lewis:
"I read the letter to the editor from Max Ramos and would ask that you correct one factual piece of information that seems to have caused signifigant debate within the comment thread. The ordinance would establish a fee for bulk trash instead of requiring residents to pay a per item fee when they need bulk pick up. I would appreciate it if this clarification/correction could be made within the comment thread of the letter, as I have seen done a few times before, so that residents can see the information within the same article."

ReplyUpdate: Lawrence Township police are still withholding the name of the woman who was killed when she was hit by a car Friday night on Route 206 because they are having difficulty contacting her next-of-kin in Hungary, Lt. Mark Ubry said this morning. The U.S. Department of State and the U.S. embassy in Budapest are trying to help Lawrence police track down the 66-year-old victim's family, he said.

On the article School Officials to Discuss 2013-14 Budget Process at Meetings Tonight With Parents

ReplyIn fairness to the school district, the email about these meetings was sent out last Friday via the district's QuickNews service (http://ltps.org/community.cfm?subpage=1500895). This service is free and available to all township residents, regardless of whether you have children attending the schools. Notice of the meetings has also been posted on the district's website for several days. The delay in posting the notice on Lawrenceville Patch was an oversight on my part. In trying to get caught up from chaos of the last two weeks (hurricane, election, snow storm, family obligations, etc.) I mistakenly believed I had already posted the news. My apologies.

On the article Lawrence Township: What's Going On With Sandy?

ReplyTownship officials previously said there will not be any emergency shelters in town. The township does not have the resources to operate such a facility. Everyone is being told to stay in the safety of their own homes. If someone needs to be evacuated by emergency personnel, they will be taken to a safe location out of the wind and rain. From there, they can make arrangements to stay with relatives or friends. Those who cannot make such arrangements will be transported to a countwide shelter operated by the American Red Cross.

I spoke to the township manager after this evening's council meeting. He advised that the 14 Professional Property Appraisers "field representatives" whose IDs are shown are the only ones who will be visiting Lawrence Township homes. Residents who are home alone and do not feel comfortable allowing an appraiser into their home can decline the appraiser entry at that time and make an appointment for the appraiser to come back another time when additional family members can be present.
