Beginning today, April 8, Frontier Airlines has launched new service routes in and out of Trenton-Mercer Airport in Ewing. The new routes include Atlanta, Chicago-Midway, Columbus, Detroit, and Raleigh/Durham. Frontier Airlines – whose new passenger service from Trenton-Mercer Airport to Orlando, Fla., begins today (Nov. 16) – yesterday announced that it will begin flying from the Mercer County airport to four additional destinations early next year. Beginning on either Jan. 31 or Feb. 1 the Denver-based airline will offer nonstop, low-fare service from Trenton-Mercer to Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Fort Myers, Fla.; Tampa Bay, Fla.; and New Orleans, La. The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 176 is sponsoring “Young Eagles Day” on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Trenton-Mercer Airport. All children ages 8 to 17 will have an opportunity to fly in an aircraft piloted by an EAA member pilot, free of charge. U.S. Senators Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Robert Menendez (D-NJ) announced in a recent news release that Trenton-Mercer Airport has received $13.3 million, part of $18.6 million from the Federal Avaiation Administration to local New Jersey airports for runway construction and rehabilitation, fire and rescue equipment, and other safety improvements. Mercer County announces it received a New Jersey Department of Transportation grant of $25,625 to go toward the necessary engineering for rehabilitation and improvements to taxiways H, B and F at Trenton-Mercer Airport in Ewing. This latest grant adds to the $973,750 received from the Federal Aviation Administration for the project, bringing the total, with the county’s apportionment, to $1,025,000.
