Softball and baseball were in full force this past week.
6-7-Year-Old Baseball May 2 Dick’s Sporting Goods Pat’s Bombers Dick’s Sporting Goods showed great teamwork helping each other get outs and making fantastic plays. Matthew M. was on the ball, assisting on third base and shortstop. Pat’s Bombers did amazing batting and fielding today. John T. made two great plays at first base in the 1st inning resulting in two outs. Dick’s Sporting Goods Sylvan Learning May 4 The Dick’s Sporting Goods team continues to have a great season! Adrian J. made some great assists as pitcher forcing the other team to speed to the bases. Daniel S. had three outs at first base. The softball team will play again Saturday at the university.
Despite out-hitting the host Explorers seven to five, the Rider University softball team lost at La Salle University 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon. Tied 1-1, La Salle hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning and used an RBI double and RBI single in the sixth inning for the final score. Rider (8-39) took a 1-0 first inning lead when freshman Emily Cottrell (Beachwood/Toms River HS South) hit an RBI ground out with the bases loaded, scoring sophomore Allysen Breeden (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) who singled with one out. Breeden had two of Rider’s seven hits and also walked, reaching base for the seventh game in a row. The Explorers tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly. Girls district 12 Majors Softball West End-Trenton Lawrence-Eco Evolutions Despite the cold weather, the girls of Eco Evolutions played another skillful game. Adeline Ripberger pitched an immense game, with Juliette Harle as catcher and Madeline Zeleznik making some great defensive plays. The girls were able to hold onto the lead for the majority of the game and win! Cooperstown Baseball Lawrence Sharks (Miele) Miele’s Cooperstown League team the Lawrence Sharks is off to a great start for the 2013 baseball season. In their April 24game the Sharks worked together to field 3 outs in the top of the second inning. The women's softball team came from behind to defeat the Leopards, Tuesday.
Despite being out-hit by the host Leopards, the Rider University softball team won a non-conference game at Lafayette College on Tuesday afternoon at Metzgar Fields. Trailing 2-1, Rider rallied with three runs in the top of the third inning, including an RBI double by freshman Kim Valdes (Jupiter, Fla./King's Academy) and an RBI triple from freshman Emily Cottrell (Beachwood/Toms River HS South), putting the Broncs back in the lead 4-2. Cottrell had two hits and three RBI in the game. The Leopards used three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning to plate two runs, cutting the deficit to 5-4. Rider took a 1-0 first inning lead on an RBI single by Valdes after junior Kehli Washington (Lulea, Sweden/New Rochelle) reached on an error. …

Junior Kehli Washington (Lulea, Sweden/New Rochelle) of the Rider University softball team was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week, it was announced last week. Washington was recognized for all games April 8-14. Washington batted .615 in five games the week before for Rider with eight runs scored and six walks for an on-base percentage of .737. and she handled all 15 chances in the field without an error. For the season, Washington has started all 38 games and leads the team in hitting (.388), runs scored (30), hits (45) and stolen bases (20). Washington is a career .315 hitter in 130 games with 131 hits and 32 stolen bases. This is Rider’s fourth conference honor this season. Sophomore Amanda Irving and …

It’s been a busy few weeks for softball and baseball teams of Lawrence. Here’s just a little of what’s been going on in the Lawrence Little League Girls District 12 Majors Softball Eco Evolutions faced Florence on April 15. The girls of Eco Evolutions not only played great, but they showed exceptional sportsmanship! Great infield defensive plays were made by Katie Ossowski on short stop, Zoe Lange on Third, while Brianna S. provided solid outfield coverage. The girls cheered their teammates on! Three days later the squad faced Robbinsville. The girls of Eco Evolutions played a fine game on our home field! Lawrence Little League Baseball and Softball squads are in full swing.
West Windsor-Notre Dame faced the Lawrence-Eco Evolutions in the Girls District 12 Majors softball division. The girls of Eco Evolutions played a fine game. Rayna Indelicato pitched a first-rate game with Robin Seidman and Natalie McGann both making huge defensive plays! Brook Metal Products defeated Retro Fitness on opening day in the Cooperstown baseball 6-7-year old division. For Brook Metal Products, all players hit the ball well. Josh Merendino, Chris Campbell, and Steve Campbell shared catching duties and did very well in this difficult position. By Rider University Sports Behind the first career shutout for red-shirt freshman Krista Morrone (Pipersville, Pa./Palisades), the Rider University softball team split a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader with Canisius College at Herb and Joan Young Field Saturday afternoon (April 6). In the opener, Morrone threw a three-hit complete game, recording two strikeouts for her sixth win of the season as Rider shutout the Golden Griffs. The Rider University softball team lost a non-conference game at Lehigh University on Wednesday, April 3. Trailing 3-2, Lehigh rallied with four runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning for the final score. Rider opened the scoring in the first inning when freshman Dana Sensi (Allentown) hit her team-leading fourth home run of the season to give the Broncs a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Amanda Irving and freshman Emily Cottrell of the Rider University softball team were named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player and Rookie of the Week respectively for all games played the last week of March, it was announced on Monday afternoon. Irving, (Westminster, Md./Westminster) a 5-4 first and second baseman, batted .636 for the week as Rider split four games, including two at Saint Peter's to open MAAC play. Against Hartford, in the second game of a doubleheader, Irving went four for four with two RBI and a run scored as the Broncs salvaged a split with the Hawks. Against the Peacocks on Saturday, Irving had two hits, two walks and three runs scored as Rider opened conference play 1-1. For the week, Irving …
