The Lawrence Township chapter of the League of Women Voters was to have hosted the meeting this evening, March 6, but decided to cancel it based on the expectation of inclement weather.
With a winter storm expected to bring snow and rain to the region today, Wednesday, March 6, the Lawrence Township chapter of the League of Women Voters has cancelled the informational meeting it had planned to discuss the township-wide property revaluation that is currently underway, according to chapter president Susan Varga. The event had been scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. today at the Lawrence Township headquarters branch of the Mercer County Library.

To help residents verify the identities of appraisers before allowing them into their homes, Lawrence Township has posted on its website copies of the photo identification cards carried by Professional Property Appraisers’ “field representatives.”
Lawrence Township’s property revaluation began in February and, over the course of the next several months, personnel from Professional Property Appraisers will be visiting each and every property in the township to conduct inspections of both the interiors and exteriors of all buildings in order to properly appraise the properties. The first of five scheduled public presentations to discuss Lawrence Township’s upcoming township-wide property revaluation process will be held by township officials at 7 p.m. this Thursday, Jan. 24, in the Commons of Lawrence High School on Princeton Pike. The goal of the meetings is to explain the revaluation – which the township has been ordered to do by the Mercer County Board of Taxation – and to answer questions township residents have. Among the business conducted at its recent meeting, Lawrence Township Council approved a $729,780 contract for a company to conduct most of the township-wide property revaluation ordered by the Mercer County Board of Taxation.
Lawrence Township Council members during their meeting last Tuesday (Sept. 4) took two significant actions related to the township-wide property revaluation ordered by the Mercer County Board of Taxation. First, with Councilwoman Cathleen Lewis out of town, the four council members present unanimously voted their approval of an ordinance authorizing a “special emergency appropriation” of $800,000 to pay for the revaluation, under terms that will allow the township to spread that cost out over a five-year period. Without the passage of such an ordinance, the township would have had to account for the full amount during a single budget year – 2013. I was home today when the appraiser came by. He was in and out of the house in 5 minutes. He was wearing a jacket with the company logo and had a photo ID and was carrying a computer-tablet. He was very nice; asked me to show him the house, just counted bed/bathrooms, gave the dog a pat and was on his way. Easy!   more ›
