Sixth Annual NAMI Mercer Walk To Be Held May 18

“Stomp Out Stigma” will be the rallying call of the event, which will be held on the campus of Educational Testing Service in Lawrence Township.

Editor's Note: The following is a news release issued by Lawrence Township-based NAMI Mercer. “Stomp Out Stigma” will be the rallying call of 1,000 or more supporters who will participate in the Sixth Annual NAMI Mercer Walk on May 18 on the campus of Educational Testing Service (ETS) in Lawrence Township. NAMI Mercer, an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, will sponsor the event with the dual goals of fighting stigma and raising money to support its free programs for individuals and families affected by mental illness. The spring walk-a-thon is NAMI Mercer’s largest community outreach activity and the organization’s greatest fundraiser. Course Will Help Families Cope With Mental Illness

"Family-to-Family," the free 12-week educational course from NAMI Mercer, is designed for adult family members of persons living with mental illness.

Editor's Note: The following is a news release issued by Lawrence Township-based NAMI Mercer. NAMI Mercer is accepting registrations for "Family-to-Family," a free 12-week education course for adult family members of persons living with mental illness. The course will be offered at two locations beginning in February. Wednesday evening classes from 6:30 to 9 p.m. will commence on Feb. 13, 2013 at Recovery Advocates of America, 2117 Highway 33 in Hamilton Township. Thursday evening classes during the same hours start on Feb. 21 at the NAMI Mercer Center, 3371 Brunswick Pike in Lawrence Township. Op-Ed: Education Key to Ending Stigma About Mental Illness

Oct. 7-13 is Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW), an opportunity to learn about serious mental illness such as major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and anxiety disorders. Mental illness is a medical illness — it does not discriminate. One in four adults experiences a mental health problem in any given year. One in 17 adults lives with a serious mental illness. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) seeks to improve the lives of individuals and families who are affected by mental illness by providing education, advocacy and mutual support.  I became involved with NAMI Mercer over 12 years ago when my family and I needed the support and education that NAMI provides as we struggled to cope with mental illness.  Now as I…

NAMI Mercer to Observe Mental Illness Awareness Week

NAMI Mercer will host uplifting and enlightening events to educate the public and those affected by mental illness.

MERCER COUNTY, N.J.--NAMI Mercer NJ, an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, will kick off Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) by hosting its fourth annual Harvest of Hope Wellness Conference on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm at the Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville. Throughout the observance period from Oct. 7 to Oct. 13, NAMI Mercer will conduct educational and anti-stigma activities around the county.
