"Family-to-Family," the free 12-week educational course from NAMI Mercer, is designed for adult family members of persons living with mental illness.
Editor's Note: The following is a news release issued by Lawrence Township-based NAMI Mercer. NAMI Mercer is accepting registrations for "Family-to-Family," a free 12-week education course for adult family members of persons living with mental illness. The course will be offered at two locations beginning in February. Wednesday evening classes from 6:30 to 9 p.m. will commence on Feb. 13, 2013 at Recovery Advocates of America, 2117 Highway 33 in Hamilton Township. Thursday evening classes during the same hours start on Feb. 21 at the NAMI Mercer Center, 3371 Brunswick Pike in Lawrence Township. Oct. 7-13 is Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW), an opportunity to learn about serious mental illness such as major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and anxiety disorders. Mental illness is a medical illness — it does not discriminate. One in four adults experiences a mental health problem in any given year. One in 17 adults lives with a serious mental illness. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) seeks to improve the lives of individuals and families who are affected by mental illness by providing education, advocacy and mutual support. Editor's Note: The following is a news release issued by the Mercer County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. “Changing minds, one step at a time” was the rallying call of the 800 supporters who participated in the Fifth Annual NAMI Mercer Walk on May 5 on the campus of Educational Testing Service (ETS) in Lawrence Township. NAMI Mercer, an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, sponsored the event with the dual goals of fighting stigma and raising money to support its free programs for individuals and families affected by mental illness. Evidence of mental illness is all around us and it affects us all. The number of mental health organizations is growing and they are all working hard to improve the lives of people.
