History of State Parks to be Discussed at Lawrence Library

Author Kevin Woyce, who specializes in New Jersey and New York regional history, will give the presentation on Aug. 16.

The Lawrence Township Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library will host a lecture about the history of New Jersey’s state parks at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16. The program is being co-sponsored by the Lawrence Historical Society and the Friends of the Lawrence Library. The library offered this description of the event: Some of New Jersey’s most exciting history can be found in our state parks. From the top of New Jersey’s highest mountain, to our last undeveloped beaches, discover the stories of our parks: who called them home in the past, what happened in and around them, and how and why they were preserved for generations of visitors. Lakeview Receives Asthma Friendly Child Care Award

LTPS Receive 'High Performing' Designation from State

New Jersey Administrative Code requires school districts to undergo a Quality Single Accountability Continuum (QSAC) review every three years.

Superintendent Crystal Lovell received notification recently that the New Jersey Department of Education (NJ DOE) has designated the Lawrence Township Public Schools (LTPS) as a “high performing” district. As part of the state’s Quality Single Accountability Continuum (QSAC) district performance review, LTPS underwent a QSAC assessment during the 2011-2012 school year. Teens Against Cancer to Stage 6th Annual Fundraiser

Founded by Lawrence High School graduate Katie Welsh, New Jersey Teens Against Cancer will hold its sixth annual Performing & Visual Arts Fundraiser on Aug. 12 to benefit the American Cancer Society.

WW II Era B-17 Bomber to Again Visit Local Airport

As in years past, the refurbished B-17 bomber named “Aluminum Overcast" will visit Trenton-Mercer Airport in August. Tours of the plane - as well as flights aboard the historic aircraft - will be offered.

Health Dept. Announces August Programs for Seniors

  Jennie Cowell, a certified speech pathologist from University Medical Center Princeton at Plainsboro, will present a lecture entitled “Gee! That’s Hard to Swallow” on Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the Lawrence Township Senior Center at 30 Darrah Lane East. The lecture, which begins at 11 a.m., is free to township residents and is sponsored by the Lawrence Township Health Department. From 1 to 2 p.m. the following Wednesday, Aug. 8, a “Medication Roundup” will be hosted at the Senior Center by Joan Mitchell, a registered nurse from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton. Lawrence Library to Host Electric Violin Concert

The family-friendly event will feature refreshments, including water ice. Crafting will take place and include button-making, vinyl visors, paper Olympic torches and keepsake envelopes.
