What to Do With Your Lawrence Teen This Summer

Lawrence Township Public Schools offer a summer program for students who will begin grades 6 through 9 in the 2013-2014 school year.

The Lawrence Township Summer Program is designed to meet the unique needs of diverse student populations. They offer a wide variety of stimulating courses that emphasize intellectual growth and skills development. The program provides students with daily instruction (Monday through Thursday) and rich educational experiences in literature, fine and performing arts, writing, math, health/fitness, science, social studies and technology. Parents may register from May 6 – June 20 by completing the registration form and returning it to the Middle School or Intermediate School main office. School Board Approves Budget for 2013-2014 Year

The tax rate to support Lawrence Township public schools for the 2013-2014 year will climb to $2.43 per $100 of assessed value – an increase of about 7½ cents over the current school year.

The Lawrence Township public school district’s $67.5 million budget for the 2013-2014 school year was approved by the township board of education during a public hearing held at Lawrence High School last week (March 21). The tax rate to support schools for the 2013-2014 year will climb to $2.43 per $100 of assessed value – an increase of about 7½ cents over the current school year. The owner of a home assessed (for tax purposes; not market value) at the township average of $160,828 will pay about $3,908 in school taxes, or about $128 more than the current school year. Slackwood School Celebrates Pi Day

Second-grader Saketh Bireddy was able to recite the mathematical constant Pi - the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter - to 27 decimal places.

The number π (/paɪ/) is a mathematical constant that is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, and is approximately equal to 3.14159... So on March 14 (3.14), Mr. George Regan, the academic support math teacher at Slackwood Elementary School, planned activities throughout the day for students to focus on Pi and other math skills. Students participated in a Pi assembly and then completed various projects related to Pi. The activities culminated with a contest amongst students to see who could give the number Pi to the most places (Pi is an infinite number). Lawrence Schools Honored at N.J. Character Education Conference

Lawrence Middle School is a 2013 New Jersey School of Character.

Lawrence Middle School (LMS) received its banner declaring it a 2013 New Jersey School of Character (NJSOC) at the NJSOC Recognition Ceremony at Rider University on March 18, 2013. Led by Principal Mindy Milavsky and Assistant Principal PJ Barrett, LMS will retain this status through 2015. The awards ceremony was part of the New Jersey Alliance for Social, Emotional, and Character Development’s annual conference. LTPS Among 'Best Communities for Music Education'

Lawrence Township Public Schools was among the school districts honored recently in the 14th annual "Best Communities for Music Education" survey by the NAAM (National Association of Music Merchants) Foundation.

On March 18, the NAMM Foundation announced the results of its 14th annual Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) survey, which acknowledges schools and districts across the United States for their commitment to and support for music education in schools. Once again, Lawrence Township Public Schools (LTPS) received this prestigious designation. Of the 2,000 communities that participated, 373 were recognized. The BCME survey requires districts to answer detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Past Principals, Faculty & Students to be Honored at EPS

The event Friday is part of Eldridge Park Elementary School's ongoing 100th anniversary celebrations. Members of the public are invited to attend but must pre-register with the school.

Past principals, faculty members and students of Eldridge Park Elementary School will be honored during an event at the school on Lawn Park Avenue tomorrow, Friday, March 22. The event – part of the school’s ongoing 100th anniversary celebrations – begins with a dessert reception in the school library at noon, followed by an all-school meeting in the school’s all-purpose room. Lawrence Teachers Recognized by Governor's Award Program

This year's winners of the Governor’s Teacher Recognition Award have distinguished themselves through "exceptional contributions" to Lawrence Township public schools.

Earlier this month, Lawrence Township Public Schools selected seven teachers as representatives for the Governor’s Teacher Recognition Award program. A committee of teachers, administrators, and parents selected this year's district winners, who are: Nominees selected must have distinguished themselves during the school year through exceptional contributions.  As established by the state, some of the criteria for selecting teachers are: “We are so fortunate to have such excellent educators as part of our Lawrence Township family," district superintendent Crystal Edwards said. LHS Students Named Finalists in Photo Contest

Lawrence High School senior Aaron Wilson-Watson and junior Julia Gromek will have their work published in "Best of College and High School Photography 2013."

Lawrence High School senior Aaron Wilson-Watson and junior Julia Gromek have been selected as finalists in Photographer's Forum magazine's 33rd Annual College and High School Photography Contest, sponsored by Nikon, USA. As finalists, Gromek and Wilson-Watson will have their selected works published in the hardcover book, "Best of College and High School Photography 2013." Over 16,700 photographs were received from students in the United States and around the world. College and high school entries were judged separately, and finalists will be featured in two sections of the book. Images awarded first through fourth place in both divisions will also…

Students Collect Canned Goods for Trenton Soup Kitchen

The seventh-graders at Lawrence Middle School were inspired by artist Andy Warhol's soup can prints.

Eight seventh-graders in Mrs. Skorupa's art class at Lawrence Middle School were so inspired by the artist Andy Warhol's soup can prints and the art created in his style, they collected soup and other canned goods for the Trenton Soup Kitchen. They collected approximately 50 cans of donated food. Shown in the photo above are: Not pictured but part of the collection are Hakim Hachicha, Rebecca Jacob and Tyler Immordino.
