Lawrence High School falls to Northern Burlington 14-6.
The Lawrence High School boys lacrosse team suffered a letdown in the opening round of the Mercer County Tournament on May 9, as the Cardinals fell to Northern Burlington by a score of 14-6. Nick Bosted scored a goal and two assists, while Brian Robb scored two goals and one assist in the losing effort. Matt Krueger and Alberto Santiago both added a goal and an assist, while Jacob Irizarry scored a goal. Patrick Kelly collected 19 saves during a busy afternoon in goal. The Cards had been riding a hot streak at the end of April, winning five out of six contests to improve to 9-3 on the year, powered by the scoring of Bosted and Irizarry. Lawrence High School’s Theater IV class received the "Best Overall Production" award for their performance of "The Audition," by Don Zolodis at the Bucks County Playhouse Theater Festival in late April. LHS competed against several other high schools, including Neshaminy and North Hunterdon Central. In addition to the top award, Shane O'Toole and Emma Anderson Beavers were singled out with individual "Excellence in Acting" awards. Lawrence High School drops tournament opener to Hopewell by a score of 6-4.
The Lawrence High School baseball team had some tough luck in the first round of the Mercer County Tournament, falling to a Hopewell squad they had defeated just one day earlier. On May 3, LHS (7-8) jumped all over Hopewell, winning by a score of 5-1 behind a dominant pitching performance by Dillon O'Brien, who went seven innings, giving up five hits and one run with three strikeouts. All but one of the LHS starters collected at least one base hit in the game, led by Pat Sweeney, who went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Connor Springsteen and Jess Russo also collected an RBI, while John Turner had two hits and two runs scored. Nick Kagel went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Three-sport standout Marisa Visco received this year's Renee Keister award.
The Golden Wave Club, a group of former Trenton Catholic Boys High School athletes, honored local athletes at its annual Fr. Clarence O'Shea Memorial Awards Breakfast on May 5. Lawrence High School (LHS) senior and three-sport standout Marisa Visco will receive this year's Renee Keister award, presented to a CVC senior who, though not the team's top scorer, has distinguished herself as a team leader displaying tremendous sportsmanship and team pride. The award is named in honor of a former McCorristin High School student who was paralyzed in a fall while on her way to becoming one of the CVC's best athletes. Visco helped the Cardinals girls basketball team achieve a 20-7 record, which was the best in Lawrence High School history. LHS would…

Dynamic duo help Cardinals improve to 9-3 on the year.
The Lawrence High School's boys lacrosse team was flying high at the end of April, winning five out of six contests to improve to 9-3 on the year, powered by the offensive exploits of Nick Bosted and Jacob Irizarry. On April 18, the Cardinals crushed Steinert by a score of 12-2. Bosted was a scoring machine, with seven goals and four assists in the win. Irizarry added four goals and an assist, while Patrick Kelly collected eight saves for LHS. LHS would follow up the blowout win with a tight victory over George (Pa.), by a score of 4-2 on April 20. Bosted was all the offense LHS would need, scoring all four Cardinal goals. Irizarry contributed two assists, while Kelly was a wall with 11 saves. In their next game on April 23, LHS would not …

Lawrence High School places 15th out of 26 in state finals.
Members of the Lawrence High School (LHS) Robotics Team competed in the Science Olympiad New Jersey State Finals Tournament at Middlesex County College in mid-March. The program is funded by a grant of approximately $31,000 that the school received last winter from the Lawrence Township Education Foundation (LTEF). Students designed, constructed, and programed a robotic arm capable of lifting and moving various objects in a designed environment. After early glitches, LHS students were able to score points and place 15th out of 26 teams. LHS students are able to test their ROBOTIC programs in a simulated environment using Virtual Worlds simulation software or in a physical environment using the testing area located in LHS Room 314. New evaluation system replaces "outdated" school report cards, according to state Department of Education.
In the first year of a new evaluation system put in place by the New Jersey Department of Education, Lawrence High School's academic performance rated as average when compared to schools across the state and to schools with similar demographics, but scored high on college and career readiness. “These new school performance reports were developed with the input of stakeholders across the state and provide a significant amount of new data to present a more complete picture of school performance,” said Commissioner Chris Cerf. “We hope this data will help schools and stakeholders engage in local goal setting and improvement to help all students graduate from high school ready for college and career.” The NJ School Performance reports for 2011…
