Deadline to File for Disaster Unemployment Assistance is Feb. 4

Anyone left unemployed because of Hurricane Sandy may file for Unemployment Insurance benefits online at www.njuifile.net or by calling a New Jersey Reemployment Call Center

Editor's Note: The following is a news release issued by the office of Gov. Chris Christie. The Christie Administration is reminding New Jerseyans who were left unemployed due to Hurricane Sandy that they have until Feb. 4, 2013 to file an application for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA).   DUA was made available by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) through the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development immediately after the Oct. 28, 2012 storm to affected individuals who did not qualify for regular Unemployment Insurance. Disaster Unemployment Assistance Expanded to All New Jersey Counties Due to Hurricane Sandy

The federal Disaster Unemployment Assistance is a special program that covers many people who otherwise may not be eligible for regular Unemployment Insurance.

Update: Gov. Chris Christie and the U. S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today, Friday, Nov. 9, that New Jersey residents in all 21 counties will have until Feb. 4, 2013, to apply for coverage under the federal Disaster Unemployment Assistance program as a result of damages caused by Hurricane Sandy.  The order establishes one deadline date, Feb. 4, 2013, for New Jersey residents to seek coverage under the federal Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) program and extends the timeline within which people may file a claim.
