More than a dozen Black History Month events will take place at Rider University.
Editor's Note: The following is a news release issued by Rider University. A keynote address from noted educator and television contributor Dr. Marc Lamont Hill on Feb. 5 will introduce a month-long Black History Month celebration, titled Moving Forward Toward Success, at Rider University. Some 15 events, ranging from the spiritual to the artistic and historical, will acquaint the University community with the African-American experience throughout February. Rider’s Black History Month celebration is presented by the Black Student Union. During the month of February, Threads, a student-led organization at Lawrence High School, will host “Colour Conference,” a series of events celebrating Black History Month. In recognition of Black History Month, Rider University will present a series of events on the Lawrence Township and Princeton campuses to celebrate African-American heritage and history in the United States, including a keynote address by Rev. DeForest B. “Buster” Soaries, former New Jersey secretary of state, on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. in Bart Luedeke Center Cavalla Room. History will come to life when surviving Tuskegee Airmen visit the Lawrence campus to share their stories at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, in Sweigart Auditorium, Room 115. Booker's not exactly doing it all out of the goodness of his heart. More for his pocketbook. He gets at least between $20,000 and $30,000 in speech fees. A couple of years ago he raised a big stink when he charged a public university; I think he had to return the money.   more ›
