Vehicle Hits House After Driver Steps on Wrong Pedal

Lawrence Township police said the 51-year-old Trenton woman - who did not have a valid driver's license - was trying to make a U-turn on Betts Avenue when she stepped on her vehicle’s accelerator instead of the brake.

An unlicensed motorist whose vehicle veered off the road and struck a house on Betts Avenue told police she stepped on the wrong pedal, according to Lawrence Township police spokesman Lt. Mark Ubry. He said Hawa Brown, 51, of Dexter Street, Trenton, told police she was attempting to make a U-turn on Betts Avenue when she stepped on her vehicle’s accelerator instead of the brake about 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20. The vehicle left the roadway, struck the side of a house, hit a fence and a tree, and finally came to rest on the property of a neighboring residence, Ubry said. He said Brown and her passenger – a 46-year-old man – suffered lacerations to their faces and other minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to Capital Health…

Cop, Woman Hospitalized in Route 1 Crash in South Brunswick

Pair of early morning accidents closed Route 1 north for five hours on Thursday.

Update, 12:20 p.m., Thursday, March 21: South Brunswick Police have identified the victims in two Thursday morning accidents that hospitalized a police officer and two other motorists. The first crash occurred at 1 a.m. at the intersection of Route 1 and Major Road, when a tractor trailer driven by Alvin Nicholson, 62, of Howell, rear ended a tanker truck driven by Edwin Diaz, 49, of Virginia Beach, according to police. The crash resulted in a large fuel spill that required the northbound lanes of Route 1 to be closed for about five hours. Both drivers were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Nicholson was issued a summons for careless driving. Multiple Accidents Reported on Wet Lawrence Roads

A car was badly damaged in one crash on Interstate 295 but the driver escaped with only minor injuries.

With roads slick from the rain that fell for much of the day, multiple traffic accidents were reported in Lawrence Township today (Tuesday, March 12), according to police and emergency officials. Among these accidents was the one-car crash shown in the photographs displayed above. It occurred on Interstate 295 in the area of Exit 67 (Route 1). Dispatched about 12:45 p.m., Lawrence Township emergency medical personnel and firefighters arrived to find that the car had slammed into a guardrail in the highway’s grassy center median. The rear of the car and part of the guardrail were mangled, but the car’s female driver was not seriously hurt, officials said. Bicycle vs. Mail Truck Collision Under Investigation

The accident, which occurred Tuesday morning on Texas Avenue, sent the bicyclist to a local hospital, but her injuries were not life threatening, Lawrence Township police said.

A bicyclist was injured when her bike collided with a U.S. Postal Service vehicle on Texas Avenue in Lawrence Township Tuesday morning (Feb. 12). Police said the accident, which occurred about 10:15 a.m., remains under investigation by Officer Robert Loveless. But preliminary information gathered thus far indicates the bicyclist was heading west on Texas Avenue when her bike struck the side of the mail truck, which was in the process of entering Texas Avenue from the jughandle exit from southbound Brunswick Pike (Business Route 1), according to police. Police identified the bicyclist as Grazyna Szczepanik, 53, of Review Avenue, Lawrence Township. Her injuries were not life threatening and she was transported by Lawrence Township ambulance …

U-Haul Truck, Car Overturn in I-95 Crash [Video]

Only minor injuries were reported in the four-vehicle pileup on Interstate 95 in Lawrence Township. One driver narrowly missed being impaled when a milepost sign pierced his windshield as his car flipped. A cat riding in another car escaped unharmed.

To the amazement of the emergency personnel and police who responded to the scene, no one was killed in a four-vehicle collision in which a U-Haul truck flipped onto its side and another vehicle came to rest on its roof along Interstate 95 in Lawrence Township this morning, Saturday, Feb. 2. In fact, only two people were transported to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries, officials said. The accident, which was reported just before 7:55 a.m., happened along the northbound side of I-95 near Exit 7B, directly beneath the Route 206 overpass. SUV Split in Half After Hitting Tree on I-95 in Lawrence

The driver, miraculously, survived the crash, which was reported at 2:25 p.m. on Wednesday - about a half-hour after more than a half-dozen people were hurt in a different collision between a small bus and another vehicle on Route 1 in Lawrence Township

A car was split in half after it collided with another vehicle, veered off Interstate 95 and slammed into a tree Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 30, in Lawrence Township. Amazingly, the car’s female driver survived the crash and is expected to recover from her injuries, police said. In a separate accident, reported about a half-hour earlier on Wednesday, eight people were hurt when a small bus loaded with senior citizens collided with another vehicle on Brunswick Pike (Business Route 1) near Carnegie Road. Man Trapped When Car Crashes on Route 206 [Video]

The accident occurred about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday after the driver lost control of his vehicle while negotiating the exit ramp from I-95 South to Route 206 North in Lawrence Township.

Update, Jan. 31: Police have indentified the driver who was involved in this accident as Bryan Takacs, 31, of Coburn Road, Hopewell Township.   Original Post, 1:12 a.m. Jan 30: A man had to be extricated from the wreckage of his car after the vehicle veered off an Interstate 95 exit ramp and crashed along Route 206 (Lawrence Road) late Tuesday night (Jan. 29). Hit-And-Run Crash Knocks Out Power to Nearby Homes

The accident, in which a tractor-trailer fled the scene after hitting a utility pole at Keefe Road and Yeger Drive, was reported to police at 10:53 a.m. Thursday.

A hit-and-run accident in which a tractor-trailer struck a utility pole at Keefe Road and Yeger Drive has knocked out power to homes in the immediate area, Lawrence Township police confirmed. Sgt. Michael Yeh said witnesses told police that the tractor-trailer initially damaged one utility pole but that impact caused a chain reaction that led to a second utility pole snapping and a live electrical wire falling to the ground. Police, who were notified of the accident at 10:53 a.m. today (Thursday, Dec. 27), arrived to find the wire burning in the grass alongside the road. Update, 1 p.m. Dec. 27: The exit ramp remains closed at this time while the cleanup effort continues. Three-Vehicle Wreck Injures Two Along I-295

The Wednesday afternoon crash occured on Interstate 295 not far from the Lawrence Township border.

Two people were transported to a local hospital after two passenger vehicles and a truck collided on Interstate 295 in Hamilton Township near the Lawrence Township border about 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19. A Patch reader sent in the above photo of the crash, which happened between the exits for Route 1 in Lawrence Township and Sloan Avenue in Hamilton Township. Police, firefighters and emergency medical personnel from Lawrence and Hamilton responded to the accident, which is being investigated by the New Jersey State Police.
