Outdoor College Track and Field Rider’s Hightower and Coleman Heading to NCAA Regional.
Senior David Hightower (Easton, Pa./Easton) and freshman La’tazah Coleman (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink) of the Rider University men’s and women’s track and field teams officially qualified for the NCAA East Championship Regional, hosted by North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, North Carolina, May 23-25, it was announced on Thursday. The meet will take place on Irwin Belk Track inside of Aggie Stadium. New Jersey is ranked as the seventh friendliest state for bicyclists, according to the League of American Bicyclists

The League, a national bicycling advocacy group, ranks all fifty states for bicycle friendliness based on a variety of characteristics including legislation and enforcement, programs and policies, infrastructure, education and encouragement, and evaluation and planning. New Jersey, which ranked third on the East Coast behind Delaware and Massachusetts, scored highest in "policies and programs" and "education and enforcement," but trailed behind other states in "infrastruture and funding." Lawrence High School falls to Northern Burlington 14-6.
The Lawrence High School boys lacrosse team suffered a letdown in the opening round of the Mercer County Tournament on May 9, as the Cardinals fell to Northern Burlington by a score of 14-6. Nick Bosted scored a goal and two assists, while Brian Robb scored two goals and one assist in the losing effort. Matt Krueger and Alberto Santiago both added a goal and an assist, while Jacob Irizarry scored a goal. Patrick Kelly collected 19 saves during a busy afternoon in goal. The Cards had been riding a hot streak at the end of April, winning five out of six contests to improve to 9-3 on the year, powered by the scoring of Bosted and Irizarry. Isaiah Johnson has agreed to play basketball at Harcum next year.
Harcum College men’s basketball coach, Drew Kelly, three signings of the Bears’ 2013 recruiting class, a trio of local hoops stars that should keep the Bears among the nation’s best at the junior college ranks. In the fall, Harcum will welcome Shawn Church, a 6’3” forward from Ridley High School in Delaware County, Pa.; Isaiah Johnson, a 5’11” guard from Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville; and Hakeem Rogers, a 6’2” guard from Elizabeth High School in northern New Jersey. Johnson is an electrifying guard who led Notre Dame High School to one of its best seasons in school history, including a school record of 25 wins and its first Mercer County Tournament title since 1998. 6-7-Year-Old Baseball May 2 Dick’s Sporting Goods Pat’s Bombers Dick’s Sporting Goods showed great teamwork helping each other get outs and making fantastic plays. Matthew M. was on the ball, assisting on third base and shortstop. Pat’s Bombers did amazing batting and fielding today. John T. made two great plays at first base in the 1st inning resulting in two outs. Dick’s Sporting Goods Sylvan Learning May 4 The Dick’s Sporting Goods team continues to have a great season! Adrian J. made some great assists as pitcher forcing the other team to speed to the bases. Daniel S. had three outs at first base. Lawrence High School drops tournament opener to Hopewell by a score of 6-4.
The Lawrence High School baseball team had some tough luck in the first round of the Mercer County Tournament, falling to a Hopewell squad they had defeated just one day earlier. On May 3, LHS (7-8) jumped all over Hopewell, winning by a score of 5-1 behind a dominant pitching performance by Dillon O'Brien, who went seven innings, giving up five hits and one run with three strikeouts. All but one of the LHS starters collected at least one base hit in the game, led by Pat Sweeney, who went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Connor Springsteen and Jess Russo also collected an RBI, while John Turner had two hits and two runs scored. Nick Kagel went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Rider University's men's and women's track and field teams both won the MAAC outdoor championships.
The Rider University men’s and women’s track and field teams both won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) outdoor track and field championships on Sunday. It’s the first time in school history that both the men’s and women’s teams won the conference championship in the same season. “My goal when I took over the program five years ago was to win both titles in the same season. To have everybody happy is a great thing. It’s always a little rough when you win on one side and have half a team happy. On the men’s side we were on point in every event, which was fantastic. The softball team will play again Saturday at the university.
Despite out-hitting the host Explorers seven to five, the Rider University softball team lost at La Salle University 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon. Tied 1-1, La Salle hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning and used an RBI double and RBI single in the sixth inning for the final score. Rider (8-39) took a 1-0 first inning lead when freshman Emily Cottrell (Beachwood/Toms River HS South) hit an RBI ground out with the bases loaded, scoring sophomore Allysen Breeden (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) who singled with one out. Three-sport standout Marisa Visco received this year's Renee Keister award.
The Golden Wave Club, a group of former Trenton Catholic Boys High School athletes, honored local athletes at its annual Fr. Clarence O'Shea Memorial Awards Breakfast on May 5. Lawrence High School (LHS) senior and three-sport standout Marisa Visco will receive this year's Renee Keister award, presented to a CVC senior who, though not the team's top scorer, has distinguished herself as a team leader displaying tremendous sportsmanship and team pride. The award is named in honor of a former McCorristin High School student who was paralyzed in a fall while on her way to becoming one of the CVC's best athletes. Visco helped the Cardinals girls basketball team achieve a 20-7 record, which was the best in Lawrence High School history. LHS would…
