Anna D. Fritz, 84, of East Windsor, died Tuesday, May 8, at the University Medical Center at Princeton. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., Anna was a resident of Lawrence Township for over 40 years prior to moving to Meadow Lakes in East Windsor. She was a retiree of the Lawrence Township Board of Education where she was employed in the accounting department. She also worked at Notre Dame High School and volunteered for the Church of Saint Ann at the Rectory. Anna was a member of the Church of Saint Ann, the Altar Rosary Society at the church and was a past president of the Saint Ann’s School PTA. Dorothy Elizabeth Heins, 85, of Lawrence Township died Tuesday, May 8, at the Lawrenceville Nursing Home. Born in Hellertown, Pa., she was a resident of Lawrence Township for the past 40 years. Dorothy was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and the Lawrence Township Senior Citizens Club #1, 2 and 5. Daughter of the late Harry and Mary Murphy Weiss and wife of the late Dale Richard Heins, she is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Macpherson and her companion Bill Flaherty, and Connie Stanger and her husband Carl; her grandchildren, Megan and Patrick Stanger; and a dear beloved sister-in-law, Mary Francis Harle. Born in Murolucano, Italy, she immigrated to the United States in 1954, and resided in the Bronx, N.Y., before moving to Princeton in 1960. Giovanna was a self employed dress maker, retiring in 1990. Daughter of the late Gerardo and Gerardina (Fatone) Gallela, and wife of the late James Rendina Sr. she is survived by two sons, Joseph M. A former Lawrence Township police detective, as a young man he witnessed the crash of the airship Hindenburg and later survived the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
James J. Hewitt Sr., 92, of Hamilton Township, died Friday, May 4, at home. Born in Trenton, and a former Lawrence Township resident, he had resided in Hamilton since 2004. Jim was a retired detective with the Lawrence Township Police Department. He was the first officer in Lawrence to be selected for the position of detective. He retired in 1983 after 27 years of service. Jim witnessed two of the most historical moments in the 20th century. As a young man representing Western Union at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station, he witnessed the crash of the German airship Hindenburg. While serving in the United States Army at Pearl Harbor, he was on guard duty when Japan attacked that United States military installation. He was a proud member of …

Susan Conaway Reali, 60, of Lawrence Township, passed away Tuesday, May 1, at her home. Born in Fort Dix, Susan was a longtime resident of Hamilton before moving to Lawrence. Susan was employed by the State of New Jersey for 42 years. Most recently, she was a supervisor of contract administration with the Department of Health and Senior Services. A very spiritual person, Susan was an active member of the Kingdom Church of Ewing. She enjoyed going for walks, pampering herself, reading and taking care of her family and her pets. Ann Toomey Bugdal, 58, died peacefully early Monday morning, April 30, at her home in Hamilton Township after a valiant five-year struggle with endometrial cancer. Ann was raised in Lawrence Township and was a lifelong resident of Mercer County. She graduated from Notre Dame High School and Rider College after which she worked as an executive secretary at Educational Testing Service for 14 years. She then joined her husband’s financial advisory business where she managed the office until a progression of her cancer forced her to retire reluctantly. Kurt Haller, a noted engineer who worked on the highly technical designs of steam-generating units in power plants around the world, died on April 22 after suffering a heart attack. He was 82. A longtime resident of Lawrence Township, Mr. Haller held several patents related to the design of power plant boilers and wrote technical papers that he presented at international conferences. He also worked on plans for upgrading aging power plants to improve efficiency and performance. As one colleague noted, there were few power plants that Mr. Haller did not have a personal knowledge of or had not himself helped design.
