The trail was the brainchild of employees from Bristol-Myers Squibb and Educational Testing Service. Incorporated as a non-profit in 2002, the organization seeks to make the trail as safe, family-friendly and handicapped-accessible as possible. A mix of corporal, private and public funds have been used to construct the trail.
