"LHS Idol" to Raise Money for Clean Drinking Water in Third World Countries

Lawrence High School DECA students planning American Idol-type event to raise money for charity: water, an organization that provides clean drinking water to people in third world countries.

LHS students David Eggert and Andrew Moldoff will host LHS Idol, similar to American Idol, but for Lawrence High School students. The event will raise money for charity: water and help raise awareness about the organization.

Charity: water, located in New York City, has a mission to build and repair wells in third-world countries, where some drinking water is filled with bacteria and diseases, including HIV/AIDS.

“Approximately 30,000 people die each week due to dirty drinking water," Eggert said. "Once we heard staggering statistics like this, we knew we had to do something to help all of these innocent people. Children are unable to get a quality education because they are spending numerous hours each day going to dirty lakes to get bacteria-filled drinking water."

All of the proceeds from LHS Idol will go towards charity: water and to help those who don't have access to clean drinking water.
