THE 44TH SEASON

Beauty, serenity, peaceful, friendship blossom in the garden. Enhanse your spirit, attract butterflies and birds into your garden. Learn how to start plants from seed. It is fun.

The Garden Gate Garden Club of Lawrenceville is celebrating its 44th season.  The Club was founded in 1968 and continues to have members that were involved with its creation.  We have18 members -there's no "requirement" to join.  We welcome the apartment dweller, the novice gardener, the container gardener, the garden enthusiast, or the indoor potted-plant Gardener to join our group.  The club is member of the national, regional, and state garden clubs.

The Garden Club offers several programs free of charge to the public and participates in activities in the community:  the Memorial Day Parade where we hand out flower and vegetable seeds; and the Community Day where members hand out seeds, pencils, and information about the club [printed and verbal].

Club members participate in creating small decorative items for the recipients of the Meals on Wheels  in Lawrenceville area.  We also participate in the Mother Nature Festival at the Lawrence Nature Center.

Our ongoing projects is the Garden Gate Junior Club that has been exploring nature for the last 43 years.  Membership age range from 9 to 16 years.  They study many areas of interest including birds, trees, flowers, insects, wild animals, habitats, natural resources, gardening, foods, and more. They also learn how to protect our natural habitats for people, for animals, and for the world.

We give two scholarships to a graduating senior from two local high schools who plan to study biology, botany, or horticulture.

The Garden Gate Garden Club also has an annual beautification award which is given to a Lawrence Township business for an outstanding horticultural appearance for the public to view.

We maintain an area of plantings [annuals, perennials] at the Princessville Cemetery on Princeton Pike and the Pauper's Cemetery on Allen Lane.

Our 44th season begins on September 17th, 2012 with guest speaker Amy Ricco.  She will speak about

"COMMON GARDEN PESTS AND HOW TO MANAGE THEM USING IPM"

Integrated Pest Management [IPM] is a wide-range ecological approach to pest management where you attempt to prevent infestation using safe intervention.  Ms. Ricco is an Associate Professor at Mercer Community College in the Horticulture Department and has a BS and MAT from Cornell University in Ornamental Horticulture.

The Pogram is open to the public and begins at 7:00 pm at the Lawrence Senior Center, 30 Darrah Lane East.

Parking is adjacent to the building.  Refreshment will be served.
