Rutgers QB in Contention for This Week's Manning Award

Fans have until Thursday morning to vote for their choice.

The current quarterback of the Rutgers University football team and a former Scarlet Knights quarterback are among eight players at the position in contention for this week’s “Manning Award Player of the Week,” the Allstate Sugar Bowl announced this week.

Rutgers quarterback Gary Nova and Pittsburgh quarterback Tom Savage were named Stars of the Week. College football fans have until Thursday morning, Sept. 26, 11 a.m., to vote for who they believe was the top quarterback of the week by visiting the Allstate Sugar Bowl’s Facebook Page.

Nova was 22-of-43 passing for 346 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the Scarlet Knights’ 28-24 win over Arkansas. His quarterback rating was 28.5. The loss was the first for the SEC team this year, and the second year in a row the Scarlet Knights defeated the Razorbacks.

Savage, the Rutgers quarterback in 2009 and 2010, tied an ACC record with six touchdown passes in a single game as the Panthers defeated Duke, 58-55. Savage was 23-of-33 passing for 424 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions. His quarterback rating was 95.6.

Other contenders are as follows, with all statistics provided by the Allstate Sugar Bowl:
