U-9 Lawrence Leopards 2-2 at the Hamilton Soccer Tournament

The Leopards enjoyed four highly competitive matches at the Hamilton Soccer Tournament, coming away with their first ever tournament victories.

In their first game Saturday, the Leopards faced the formidable Hainesport SC Angels, an upper flight opponent. The Leopards came up short in a fiercely contested match; the game was much closer than the final score indicated (0-4).

In their second game on Saturday, they faced in-league opponent Voorhees SC Dynamos and came up short 1-2. In both games, the Leopards put forth tremendous effort, led by Emily Chess, Maggie Gronenthal and Nicole White at fullback. Sophia Denarski, Isabella Garcia and Yahaira Lopez had outstanding games at midfield.

On Sunday, the Leopards regrouped and were able to earn decisive victories against the Jackson Tsunami (3-1) and Robbinsville SC Comets (5-1). Mackenzie Esposito led the Leopards offensively, scoring all of their goals and putting tremendous pressure on the opposing defense.

Briana Audet had a magnificent performance at center-mid, relentlessly pressuring the ball and initiating the offense. Emily Franceschini and Olivia Drake helped control the outside while creating many scoring opportunities for the Leopards. Katie Ciuffreda, Isabelle Flemm and Eliza Moulder had terrific performances at goal keeper, stopping numerous shots.

The Leopards' season record now stands at 3-0-1 in league play and 5-2-1 overall.

Lawrence U-9 Strikers

Andrew Lynch scored his first goal as a Striker as he led the team offensively for a 2-1-1 record in the Hamilton Soccer Tournament. Defeating the Hainesport 5-2, Ryan Milano’s brilliant cross to Lynch started the offense early in the game.

Theo Sardain followed on a through ball pass from Davin Jodoin to tally the second goal and then Sardain blasted a shot that deflected off a defender into the goal. Milano sent another cross for Dylan Adamsky to put into the back of the net and then followed with his own unassisted goal.

The Strikers followed with another win against Hamilton Raiders with two unassisted goals by Sardain and Adamsky and an own goal on the Raiders. Sunday’s games proved to be a little tougher for the Strikers as they took a 2-0 loss to Hamilton Cyclones and followed with a 1-1 tie on a lone goal by forward Sam Bowes who received a brilliant pass from Aidan McChesney.

Mid-fielders Harrison Bohra and Will Schuler played tough in the Sunday mud to keep as much as possible out of the defensive end. Ian Stuckey and Luke Longo anchored the defense protecting the shared goalkeepers Zach Berardi, Jodoin, McChesney, and Adamsky.

Lawrence U-11 Blazers

Rebounding from their first loss of the season to a very good Morris United team, the U-11 Blazers returned to their winning ways this past weekend with a hard fought 2-0 victory over the Flemington Tornadoes. Teddy Gutman tallied both Blazer goals, the first on a superb 1-2 combination with Jude Bidle and the second resulting from a heads up pass by Connor Monaghan on a ball played off a corner kick.

Luke Okupski, Jason Lobben, Abyhan Jakishen and Thomas Manocchio's aggressive, attacking style of play kept their opponents off balance and the Blazers defense led by Vinnie Giangrasso, Alex Hatfield and Luke Bidle held the hard charging Tornadoes at bay. Keepers Okupski and Hatfield came up with several big saves to preserve the shutout victory. The Blazer's record now stands at 2-1-1.
