Giants Camp: Tuck Feels 'Great', Rolle Feels a 'Million Times Better'

Today we take a look at the tight ends and defensive linemen.

By Rob Heinemann

It’s not likely that Antrel Rolle will practice for at least another week but the former Miami Hurricane was walking around without a boot today. Rolle’s entire calf was swollen well above his walking boot on Tuesday. The safety even went as far as saying that his ankle “feels a million times better.”

Tom Coughlin spoke about Rolle and his toughness in dealing with injuries.

“Even when he was out there on the field he said ‘I’ll be fine.’ He has an ankle injury. He doesn’t like to miss anything and if he can, he misses nothing. He’s one of those guys.”

"Boots are for the wimps. I'm not a wimp," Rolle said at camp on Wednesday.

Today we give you an update on the Giants’ tight ends and defensive linemen.

Defensive Linemen

Damontre Moore grabbed the attention of Giants fans on Saturday when the 6’5’’, 250-pound beast of a defensive endwent soaring through the air and blocked a punt with his sternum. Moore is a rookie who was drafted in the third round in the 2013 draft out of Texas A&M. This guy is fast, agile and strong. Those words could also describe another young, successful defensive end the on the Giants, Jason Pierre-Paul.

Giants Defensive Coordinator Perry Fewell is having the defensive ends switch sides from time to time during practice. Justin Tuck joked around when asked about the new wrinkle in their defense.

“I don’t know what you talking about. We’re switching sides?” Tuck teased. “It’s just something new. Trying to see if it benefits the defense and it allows us to showcase a little versatility. I don’t think people understand that when playing both sides it is completely different technique and a completely different way of going about things. I’m looking forward to it.”

Tuck also said that his back, that kept him sidelined for part of last week and out of the preseason opener, feels “great” and that he will be playing this weekend against Indianapolis.

As for Pierre-Paul, he is still recovering from back issues and hopes, but won’t push too hard, for a return by week one of the regular season.

Tight Ends

Adrien Robinson looks poised to take the next step for the Giants this season. That doesn’t mean he will be the number one guy or catch 50 passes; it means he is looking better than he ever has and is progressing into a guy who could be a No. 1 and catch 50+ passes.

Brandon Myers has been great in camp so far and is right where he needs to be each time Eli Manning looks to him. Myers seems to really understand the offense and is also leaning his blocking assignments very quickly.

Bear Pascoe will likely be the third tight end as he enters the season. Fullback Henry Hynoski is still in the recovery processfrom a knee injury and Pascoe is playing his role in the meantime. Hynoski was pedaling slowly on an exercise bike during practice and had his knee heavily taped and iced afterwards. Pascoe has done a very nice job playing the role of fullback and could enter the season at that position. Eli is quite comfortable with Pascoe and could easily get some production out of him in the short passing game from the fullback position.
