Sturgis Named Mercer County 'Teacher of the Year'

Angeline Sturgis, Eldridge Park Elementary School ESL teacher, received notification on April 12 from Dr. Sam Stewart, Mercer County Executive Superintendent, that she is the “2012-2013 Mercer County Teacher of the Year.”

This prestigious award qualifies her for consideration for the State Teacher of the Year, along with teachers from the 20 other counties throughout the state.

Ms. Sturgis has taught in Lawrence Township Public Schools for eight years.  She is the ninth Lawrence educator to be named Mercer County Teacher of the Year within the past 19 years.

Superintendent Crystal Lovell related, “We are extremely pleased that Angeline Sturgis was chosen as Mercer County Teacher of the Year.  She exemplifies not only the qualities of an extremely talented educator, but also the daily commitment, dedication and inspiration it takes to help a child achieve and exceed his or her potential.”

“We are so proud that our very own Angeline Sturgis, Lawrence Township’s Teacher of the Year, has been selected as Mercer County Teacher of the Year," Board of Education President Laura Waters, Ph.D., said. "Her devotion to her ESL students and commitment to the whole school community exemplifies the best of the teaching profession.”

“Angeline is an exceptional teacher who is very deserving of this award," Kathryn Robbins, principal of Eldridge Park Elementary School, said. "She provides her students with creative and meaningful learning experiences utilizing everything at her disposal to ensure that they understand the concepts that she is teaching.  She instills pride in her students and helps them to see and fulfill their own potential as learners. Angeline is dedicated and committed to her students and their families. She encourages them to work hard to ensure their future success. Angeline is an inspiration to all who work with her. “
