School Board Approves Budget for 2013-2014 Year

The tax rate to support Lawrence Township public schools for the 2013-2014 year will climb to $2.43 per $100 of assessed value – an increase of about 7½ cents over the current school year.

The Lawrence Township public school district’s $67.5 million budget for the 2013-2014 school year was approved by the township board of education during a public hearing held at Lawrence High School last week (March 21).

The tax rate to support schools for the 2013-2014 year will climb to $2.43 per $100 of assessed value – an increase of about 7½ cents over the current school year.

The owner of a home assessed (for tax purposes; not market value) at the township average of $160,828 will pay about $3,908 in school taxes, or about $128 more than the current school year.

The $67.5 million spending plan was discussed in detail at a special school board meeting held on March 5.

The vote to approve the school budget at last week’s hearing was preceded by presentations by school district officials about the school budget and township officials about the municipal budget.

A public hearing about the 2013 municipal budget is scheduled to take place during the April 16 Lawrence Township Council meeting.
