The Prohibition Era of speakeasies, hoodlums, and Vaudeville routines comes to pint-size life as Saint Ann School in Lawrence Township stages the musical Bugsy Malone Jr.  Peppy songs like “Flat Sam’s Grand Slam” and “Show Business” are complemented by Vaudeville-style skits between scenes.

Performances are at 7 p.m. on March 24, 30, and 31 and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 25. Advance tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children (kids under three are free) and can be reserved by calling (609) 883-0246.

“This is a lighthearted take on the movies of Jimmy Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, and the Bowery Boys,” said director-choreographer Robin Scott.  “Through the talent of our students and the art deco sets and flapper costumes parents have created, we hope to give the audience a taste of those gangster films—only with marshmallows and silly string as ammunition, and the strongest drink in the joint is a sarsaparilla.”

David Rowcotsky and Patrick Ramsey will play the title role as part of two full casts that also include Isabella Guhl-Erdie and Mariah Kondash as the plucky Blousey Brown; Seamus Meagher and Michael Connolly as mobster Flat Sam; Faith Cowell and Alexis Staniec as rival Dandy Dani; and Angela Roberts and Eva Pierrot as showgirl Tallulah.
