Rider University’s Westminster College of the Arts will host Rider Presents, a musical theater performance workshop for New Jersey high school students. This unique event will offer more than 100 sophomores and juniors the opportunity to explore the world of musical theater at the college level.

The program, jointly sponsored by Rider University, the Lawrence Township Education Foundation and the New Jersey Education Foundation Partnership, will be held on Tuesday, April 26, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Yvonne Theater and the Spitz Studio Theater, located inside the Fine Arts Building on Rider’s Lawrence Township campus, 2083 Lawrence Rd.

“We are very grateful to Rider University for partnering with us in this exciting arts education initiative,” said Ivy Cohen, executive director of Lawrence Township Education Foundation. “The program will give participating students exposure to life on a college campus. In addition, it will highlight Rider’s Fine Arts program.”

During the morning session of the program, faculty members from Rider’s Fine Arts department will hold two workshops based on auditioning for musical theater and improvisation and movement. Later, the high school students will have the chance to watch excerpts from upcoming musical cabaret performance by Rider students during the afternoon session.

The cabaret performance opens Thursday, April 28, and will run through Sunday, May 1. A question-and-answer session and an admissions presentation will follow.

Participating schools will include Lawrence High School, Robbinsville High School, Hopewell Valley Central High School in Pennington, Abraham Clark High School in Roselle and Burlington County Institute of Technology.

The Lawrence Township Education Foundation is a member of the New Jersey Education Foundation Partnership, a statewide coalition of local education foundations working to enhance public education in New Jersey. As members of the partnership, the local education foundation is offering this opportunity to the districts’ high school theater students.
