Retiring Principal Honored During Party in School Yard

Over 100 people turned out last Friday to celebrate Dr. Patricia Wendell as she prepares to retire after serving as principal of Slackwood Elementary School for the last 21 years.

More than 100 students, parents, administrators, and alumni filled the playground at Slackwood Elementary School on Friday (June 3) to wish Dr. Patricia Wendell good luck in her future endeavors.

Wendell is retiring from the Lawrence Township school district after having served as principal at Slackwood for 21 years. Her retirement is effective Sept. 1.

Hugs were in plentiful supply as people turned out on a perfect spring day to wish Wendell well and to share stories with her of how she impacted their lives.

Overheard was one recent college graduate who said Wendell came to Slackwood the year he was a first-grader at the school. She was pleased to see him, and so many former and current students turn out for cake and cold drinks.

Wendell said she was “grateful for the wonderful families and children that I have been able to be a part of their lives.”

She said she will continue to serve as principal at Slackwood throughout the summer, including leading the Summer Eagle program as she done has for the past 11 years.

As for the future, she said she has always had an “interest in community education. I am hoping to do something with that.”
