Nutrition Rock Concert and Wellness Fair to be Held at Slackwood School

The "Jump with Jill" concert will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 28. The free event will feature songs, dancing, games and other activities for children.

Editor's Note: The following is a news release issued by the Lawrence Township Education Foundation.

“Jump with Jill,” is the title of a free nutrition rock concert that will take place on Sept. 28 at 3:30 p.m. at Slackwood Elementary School in Lawrence Township.

Jill Jayne, rock star nutritionist, will perform catchy songs and upbeat dance moves in an effort to tackle childhood obesity.  Jill uses the same tools normally used to sell junk food and keep kids sedentary into a powerful tool for teaching healthy habits.

Also taking place will be a health fair with games and activities for children along with the ribbon-cutting of an outdoor exercise circuit behind the school.

Students will be taught how to use all equipment during physical education classes and gain an understanding of why daily exercise is important.  This equipment will also be available to the Slackwood community.

This program, organized by the Wellness Team at Slackwood Elementary School, is funded by a grant from the Lawrence Township Education Foundation (LTEF).

LTEF board president Paul Schindel stated, "The Lawrence Township Education Foundation is proud to support this important project that will enhance physical activity while helping to battle childhood obesity."

Slackwood Physical Education Teacher Patty Weister explained, “Childhood obesity is a huge problem today.  We are glad to offer these programs to try to do our part to combat it and give Slackwood students and their families the tools that they need to make healthy life choices.”

The Lawrence Township Education Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted to enhancing educational opportunities for Lawrence Township public school students; it has funded close to 500 programs in the Lawrence schools since 1992.
