“Parents/Guardians should attend the registration session at the school their child will attend, as determined by the attendance boundary in which the child lives. Call (609) 671-5401 if you are unsure which elementary school your child should attend,” the township school district said in an advisory.

Children should not attend the registration.

Parents or guardians who miss the registration for their child’s specific school can attend one of the other sessions in order to enroll in the district.

“Parents not fluent in English may want to bring a translator,” the district suggested.

Preschool for 4-Year-Olds

The township school district is now accepting applications for two preschool classes to be held during the 2011-2012 school year at Ben Franklin Elementary School. This preschool program serves 4-year-old low-income children – both those who are typically-developing and those with special needs.

For more information, including tuition details, download the preschool brochure and application. Questions should be directed to Jay Billy at (609) 671-5425 or jbilly@ltps.org.

Preschool for 3-Year-Olds

Applications are still being accepted for the school district’s preschool program for 3-year-olds for the 2011-2012 school year. The program, which integrates typically-developing children and special-needs children, will meet for 2½ hours a day, five days a week at Lawrenceville Elementary School.

The class will be limited to a total of 16 students, with placement for eight typically-developing 3-year-olds to be based on a lottery that will be held on March 17. Special-needs students will be placed in the class through identification, evaluation and eligibility procedures as outlined by state code. Tuition for the preschool program will cost $300 per month. To be eligible for the program a child must at least three years of age on or before Oct. 1, 2011, must be a Lawrence Township resident, and must be toilet-trained.

Lottery applications are available at the main offices of all township elementary schools, the township school district office at 2565 Princeton Pike, or online. Completed applications must be returned to Lawrenceville Elementary School no later than March 11. Anyone with questions should call Jane Tomsho at (609) 671-5571.
