Lawrence High Students Take Part in Statewide Coat Drive

LHS students are hoping to collect 600 new or gently-used coats for the annual Jersey Cares Coat Drive. Coat donations are even more important this year in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

The objective of the annual Jersey Cares Coat Drive is to collect and distribute 50,000 "gently used" winter coats to at-risk men, women and children. Now in its 17th year, Jersey Cares has collected, sorted and distributed hundreds of thousands of winter coats to New Jersey residents in need.

Coats are even more important this year due to Hurricane Sandy.

As in years past, Lawrence High School’s Student Council is coordinating a local effort to support the statewide coat drive.

Students in the freshmen and sophomore academies will compete to see who can collect the most coats.

Coats – either gently-used or brand new – can be dropped off at the high school’s main office or in Room 124 before Dec. 7.

If taking part in the academy competition, please be sure to put your donation in the correct grade level’s area (boxes will be marked “9th” and “10th’).

The goal of the high school’s collection effort is 600 coats.
