Lawrence High Students Earn Academic Honors

Several Lawrence High School students have distinguished themselves in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program and the 2012-2013 National Hispanic Recognition Program.

2013 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Michael Baicker and Darius Teng have been named as Semifinalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

In April 2012, the 50,000 highest PSAT scorers were offered an opportunity in which to continue in the competition. Of this select group of students, 16,000 were designated Semifinalists on a state representational basis.

These academically-talented high school seniors will now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for one of 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.

 

LHS Announces National Merit Commended Students

Lawrence High School is pleased to announce that Irene Connelly, Frank DiMartino, Joseph Donoghue, Richard Liu, Rebecca Masih, Jan-Lucas Ott, Jeremy Savarin, and Rithvick Bhagwati have been named Commended Students in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

These scholastically-talented seniors will receive a Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation will receive recognition for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2013 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2013 competition by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

 

Victoria Solomon named National Hispanic Scholar

Lawrence High School senior Victoria Solomon has been named a Scholar in the 2012-2013 National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP).

This year, the NHRP recognized nearly 5,000 students selected from a pool of over 235,000 who took the 2011 PSAT/NMSQT and identified themselves as Hispanic/Latino. Students with GPAs of 3.5 or higher are designated Scholars, and those with GPAs of 3.0 to 3.49 as Honorable Mentions.
