'Keep LES Green' Program Off and Running

The project at Lawrenceville Elementary School includes a paper recycling initiative that involves teachers, students, custodial staff and others.

Lawrenceville Elementary School kicked-off its “Keep LES Green" Program during the week of March 19.

The project includes:

  • a paper recycling initiative that involves teachers, students, custodial staff and others in improving recycling at the school;
  • the 2012 kick-off of the Garden and Composting Project in partnership with Snipes Farm of Morrisville, Pa.; and
  • a No Garbage Day during Earth Day week in April, when all students will be encouraged to bring their lunch in reusable or recyclable packaging.

During the spring, teachers will work with Snipes Farm and LES staff, parents and children to plant crops to be harvested during a summer bounty celebration in July and during a Fall Harvest in September.

Students also will learn about the biology and environmental science of the garden with Roberta Hunter of Acorn to Oak Environmental Education.
