Girl Scout Cadets from Lawrence Visit Flight School

The girls, who are seventh-graders at Lawrence Middle School, were working to earn their aviation badges.

A group of girls from Lawrence Township recently traveled to Robbinsville Township to visit the Air-Mods Flight and Service Center at Trenton-Robbinsville Airport to work on earning their Girl Scout aviation badges.

The girls, who attend the seventh grade at Lawrence Middle School, are cadets in Girl Scout Troop 71709. The troop is led by Barbara Molony and Kathleen Franc.

In preparation for the trip the girls learned about the principles of flight using paper airplanes, flew flight simulators on Google Earth and did a number of fun activities to learn about "flight disorientation" by exploring balance, spatial illusions and reaction time, according to Molony.

She said Air-Mods owner Lisa Campbell spoke to the girls about careers in the aviation industry and gave them a guided tour of the facility and airport. The girls got to watch landings and takeoffs and explore the insides of the some of the many small aircraft there.

After the visit, the girls conducted research about women in aviation history.
