Excessive Heat Prompts Early Dismissal of Twp. Schools

Thanks to a "hot and humid air mass" that will move into the region, it will feel like it's 100 degrees in Lawrence Township on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

With the National Weather Service having issued an Excessive Heat Warning for noon Wednesday (June 8) through 8 p.m. on Thursday (June 9), Lawrence Township Public Schools have decided to send students home early on both days.

St. Ann School will also close early (12:15 p.m.) on Wednesday and Thursday.

“A very hot and humid air mass will cause temperatures to swell into the mid- and upper-90s and create dangerous conditions, especially in highly urbanized areas,” the weather service advised. “Heat index values will be around 100. The elderly, the infirm, children and pets are at greatest risk, especially where there is no air conditioning. This affects outdoor activities, especially during the afternoon hours.”
