Education Foundation Details Fall 2011 Grants

Eleven grants worth a total of over $34,000 have been awarded to township schools by the Lawrence Township Education Foundation.

The Lawrence Township Education Foundation (LTEF) is pleased to announce it has completed its Fall 2011 grant cycle by awarding 11 grants totaling more than $34,000 to fund innovative classroom programs in Lawrence Township Public Schools.

The grants, submitted by district teachers, cover a broad range of disciplines including language integration, character education, science, and music.

At Slackwood Elementary School, kindergarten and first grade students will have additional technology integrated into their curriculum with iPads. 

Lawrenceville Elementary School second graders will have their science curriculum expanded with new pollinator kits for their study of butterflies.

Third-graders at Slackwood, Ben Franklin, and Eldridge Park will visit Kidsbridge Tolerance Museum to increase their diversity awareness and appreciation for others.

Students at Lawrence High School and Lawrence Middle School will improve their public speaking and performance skills with the purchase of video recording equipment. 

Performing arts students at Lawrence Middle School will improve their skills through an artist in residence program.   Lawrence High School students studying Mandarin will learn about Chinese calligraphy and brush painting.

Other funded programs include an iRover to enhance global communication at Ben Franklin Elementary School and portable magnetic chalkboard at Lawrence Intermediate School for the Art program. 

Funding will also continue in support of the already established literacy and language acquisition program for Latino families at Eldridge Park School; and equipment to enhance music education among special needs students in our schools. 

The Lawrence Township Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization that fosters educational excellence, creativity, and achievement in the Lawrence Township Public Schools.
