Come Beat a Drum

Drum Circle at the Lawrence branch of the Mercer County Library is for kids and adults.

Kids and adults alike can enjoy music together tomorrow (Friday, Aug. 12) at the Lawrence Township headquarters branch of the Mercer County Library.

Library patrons, whether musicians or non musicians, can take part in a drum circle hosted by entertainer Ange Chianese of Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Entertainers.

At the drum circle, to be held 4:30 p.m. Friday, library guests can try a variety of drums provided by Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Entertainers, including conga, bongo, frame, djembe and doumbek drums. Shakers, gongs, bells and other percussion are also welcome, and refreshments will be served. There is no registration required for this free event.

Some guests bring their own drums, while other people use the drums provided, said Chianese. “I invite people to try out the different instruments that are there.”

The drum circle is a chance for people to enjoy music together, build confidence and learn about the variety of drums available, Chianese said. The drum circle is less about instruction, but more about experimentation, he said.

“It is an exploration, for anyone at any level to build together with people of varying experience,” he said.

“If you think you can’t do this, you may be wrong.” he added. “Come out and give it a try.”

The drum circle has been a regular event at the library, and is normally held the first Friday of every month.
