Ben Franklin School Students 'Read for the Record'

Lawrence Township elementary school takes part in national program that supports early literacy.

Editor's Note: The following is a news release issued by Lawrence Township Public Schools.

On Oct. 6, the children at Ben Franklin Elementary School participated in Jumpstart's Read for the Record, a national campaign to support early literacy in low-income neighborhoods.

Jumpstart is presented in partnership with the Pearson Foundation to help millions of children at risk of school failure. Children will receive the quality early education they deserve through more than 50,000 donated books. This will encourage literacy in communities in dire need of resources.

This year’s Read for the Record selection was Anna Dewdney’s classic "Llama Llama Red Pajama." 

Mr. Thomas DeMarco, a Pearson representative and a Ben Franklin parent, helped Ben Franklin Principal Chrisopher Turnbull lead the event with the following guest readers:

Ben Franklin Elementary School is pleased to announce their efforts will help JumpStart and Pearson put over 500 books in the hands of those in need.
