Art for Kids by Kids

Free class at the library allows children to develop their artistic skills.

Kids from throughout the area can get their creative juices flowing at a free art class this afternoon (Friday, Aug. 12) at South Brunswick Public Library.

The class for kids, called “,” runs from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Friday afternoon for students in the third through the sixth grade. No advance registration is required.

At the class, kids will have the opportunity to create artwork with various art supplies provided by the library. In past sessions, children have worked with a variety of mediums, including paints, markers, watercolors and oil pastels.

The program is taught by a group of student volunteers from South Brunswick High School, says Susanna Chan, head of children services at the library. The students wanted to give back to their community and share their love of art with younger kids, Chan explained.

Some of the creations from past Art Discovery students are now on display in the library, she added.

“It is a popular class, especially in the summer,” she said.

Friday’s Art Discovery session will be the last one of the summer, but she intends to schedule more Art Discovery sessions in the fall, Chan said.
