Adam LeCompte - Whiz Kid of the Week

Athlete, actor and fundraiser - at 10-years-old, Adam LeCompte has proven you are never too young to make a difference.

Adam LeCompte is a natural-born diver and overall athlete. At 18 months he first jumped off a diving board –before he even knew how to swim. When he was 4, he performed a flip and won a dive meet in the 8 & Under age group. He was the 8 & Under diving champion for the Princeton Area Swim & Dive Association (PASDA) in 2006, 2008, and 2009 and was undefeated in the PASDA 2010 regular season dual meets for both the Under 14 and Under 17 age groups.

Last year Adam was the 10 & Under diving champion for PASDA, as well as the 12 & Under open diving champion for PASDA in 2010. Last month, he competed at Boston University and was named the USA Diving Region 1 Champion for 2011.

Adam qualified for 2011 USA Diving Junior Eastern National Diving Championships held April 8-10 at University of Tennessee. The top 12 divers in each age category received medals. Adam finished eighth in the 1-meter competition, and 11th in the 3-meter competition for the 11 & Under age group. He will have a second chance to compete against the country's best divers again this August at the USA Diving National Championships.

Adam trains with coached Candace Gottlieb and the Junior Olympic team at The College of New Jersey 10 hours per week, and also trains with former world diving champion and five-time U.S. Olympic Diving Coach Dick Kimball.

In 2010, Adam was the only male student at Lawrence Intermediate School to earn the Presidential Physical Fitness Award. He is on track to achieve that again this year. He is the current "pull-ups" record holder for fifth grade at LIS with 15 pull-ups.

In addition to diving, he is a striker, midfielder and back-up keeper for the Lawrence Hamnett travel soccer team.

Last month Adam raised $800 last month for childhood cancer research by having his head shaved during the .

Adam also plays the cello in his spare time and enjoys acting. He sang, danced and spoke during 27 performances of McCarter Theater's 2010 production of "A Christmas Carol.”
