County Judge: No Detox Facility in Lawrence Medical Center

Sunrise Detox has been rejected by the zoning board twice and the decision was upheld by a judge on Wednesday.

A Mercer County judge has ruled a developer can't open a drug detoxification facility in a medical office campus in Lawrence Township on Federal City Road, nj.com reports.

John Simone's proposal to bring Sunrise Detox to a 17,000-square-foot building on Federal City Road adjacent to the Traditions at Federal Point adult community, was rejected by the township's zoning board in June, 2011 because of a lack of inherent beneficial use.

Mercer County Judge Mary Jacobson ordered the zoning board to reconsider, and in November, 2012, it was again denied because it didn't conform to local zoning, according to the report. On Wednesday, Jacobson upheld that decision, according to the report.

Lawrence Township residents said they oppose the drug detoxification facility because they feared it would bring with it drug addicts and crime.

Simone and his lawyers have 45 days to appeal the decision.
