County Clerk To Swear in Notary Publics at Satellite Office in 2013

Notaries will be processed from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month.

Editor's Note: The following news release was issued by the Mercer County Clerk's Office.

Mercer County Clerk Paula Sollami Covello will be swearing in notary publics at the County’s satellite office on a monthly basis for residents in 2013. Because of the recent success in processing notary public applications on specially designated nights at the Mercer County Connection, the service has been made a permanent monthly service by the County Clerk for the coming year.

The Mercer County Clerk will bring her notary staff to the Mercer County Connection located in the Hamilton Square Shopping Center at 957 Route 33 and Paxson Avenue on the first Thursday of each month to process Notary Public Commissions on-site.

Adding, “There is hardly a wait to have your notary application or renewal processed, and parking is free and plentiful.”

Notaries will be processed from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month on: Jan. 3, Feb. 7, March 7, April 4, May 2, June 6, July 11*, Aug. 1, Sept. 5, Oct. 3, Nov. 7, and Dec. 5.

Prospective Notary Publics must have their applications first signed by a New Jersey State Legislator, then sent to the Office of the State Treasurer with a $25 application fee. Once a Notary Public Commission and Oath Qualification certificate are issued to approved applicants by the State, they are required to be sworn in by the County Clerk within 90 days from their commission date and register. The County fee to register a Notary Commission is set statutorily at $15 and lasts for five years.

A Notary Public is a state-appointed officiant who serves as an impartial witness in the signing of documents and attests signatures. Under the authority of the State Treasurer, Notaries serve for a five-year period and may renew the appointment in five-year increments. Notary public candidates must reside or be employed in Mercer County and be at least 18 years of age.

Checks or credit cards will be accepted for payment. Walk-ins are welcome. Valid photo identification, such as a driver’s license is required. Copies of the New Jersey Notary Public Manual will also be available free of charge to all Notary Publics.

In the event of inclement weather, call the Office of the Mercer County Clerk at 609-989-6466 or the County Connection at 609-890-9800 for rescheduling information. For further information or to download a Notary Public application, go to Mercercounty.org and click County Clerk.

For those who will be unable to participate in a Notary Public Nights, the Mercer County Clerk’s office processes notary commissions on a regular basis, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays until 6:45 p.m. at the County Clerk’s Office, 209 S. Broad St. in Trenton.
