World Trade Center Steel to Pass Through Lawrence

The steel will form the centerpiece of a future 9/11 memorial in Princeton.

A piece of steel recovered from the ruins of the World Trade Center in New York following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, will pass through Lawrence Township tomorrow morning (Saturday, March 24) on its way to Princeton Borough, where it will eventually become the centerpiece of a 9/11 memorial in Princeton.

The steel will be escorted from New York to Princeton by a procession that will include Princeton firefighters, various law enforcement personnel and motorcycles.

The route will take the steel into Lawrence Township sometime between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. by way of Interstate 295/Interstate 95, exiting onto Route 206 (Lawrence Road) for the final leg of the journey into Princeton.

Lawrence Township volunteer firefighters plan to position themselves and their fire apparatus along Route 206, in the area of the Lawrenceville Cemetery, south of Carter Road, to salute the steel as it passes by.
