Updated: Woman Hurt as Car Flips on Princeton Avenue

The driver, who complained of neck pain after the crash, was issued a ticket for careless driving by Lawrence Township police.

A Ewing Township woman escaped with only minor injuries when her car flipped onto its roof Wednesday night (March 23).

The accident happened about 11:15 p.m. at the intersection of Princeton Avenue and Brunswick Circle Extension.

Lt. Charles Edgar, a Lawrence Township police spokesman, said Doreen E. Muhammad, 52, of Somerset Street in Ewing, was driving westbound – toward Ewing – along Brunswick Circle Extension when she lost control of her 1999 Volkswagen.

The car struck a road sign and flipped onto its roof, coming to rest on Princeton Avenue, he said.

Muhammad told police all she remembers is her car starting to “shake and the next thing she knew it was upside down and she was trying to get her seat belt off,” Edgar said.

A township ambulance crew, assisted by volunteer firefighters from Slackwood Fire Co., removed Muhammad from the car and rushed her to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton.

Edgar said she was treated for a complaint of pain to her neck.

Officer Michael Smith investigated the accident and issued Muhammad a ticket for careless driving, Edgar said.

Firefighters swept debris out of the road and traffic was detoured away from the scene for about an hour until the wrecked car was removed by a tow truck.
