On Thursday, Sept. 5, a resident of Colby Court reported that two Mongoose bicycles were stolen at about 7:30 p.m. Each was valued at approximately $200.
Neighbors told police they saw three or four young black males walking through the complex around that time, and soon afterwards, leave on bicycles.
Lawrence Township Police said two days later, on Saturday, the resident who reported the bike thefts was at McDonalds when she saw her son's bike leaning against the railing outside.
As she walked towards the bike, a black male, approximately 5 feet tall and 100 lbs, approached the bike and attempted to get on it. The woman grabbed the handlebars and allegedly told the boy it was her son's bike. She told police that's when the boy ran to his friends nearby jumped on another bike and fled towards the highway.
Police responded and checked the immediate area, but could not find anyone.
The bike was returned to the victim.
