Police are probing how a man died after a dump truck pushed his car into Colonial Lake and landed on him.

The dump truck and car careened into Colonial Lake around 5 p.m. on July 8, police said. The truck reportedly rear-ended the car at a red light, and sent both into the water.

A rescue team, including a Hazmat crew and divers, worked to save the passengers of the car, police said.

The man was trapped underwater for at least two hours while rescuer workers worked to free him. He was pronounced dead at the lake.

Officials did not identify the victim pending notification of next of kin, or the driver of the truck. Lt. Joe Amodio said units responded to a call around 3 p.m., according to NJ.com.

The truck driver was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries. A tow truck had to pull the truck out of the 4-to-5-feet deep water before the victim’s car and body could be extricated, according to NJ.com.
