Update: Three Dead in Route 1 Accident, Driver of Tractor Trailer Charged

The accident happened around 6:30 p.m.

A New York man has been charged with three counts of death by auto after a fatal accident on Business Route 1 in Lawrence Township killed a woman and two young children. 

Richard Williams, 45, of Brooklyn, N.Y. is being held at the Mercer County Correction Center in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office. 

Williams was driving the tractor trailer around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2 near the intersection of Brunswick Pike and Darrah Lane. The accident remains under investigation, but authorities believe a family in a Chevrolet Tahoe collided with the tractor trailer as Williams was making an illegal U turn while traveling south on Brunswick Pike.

The driver of the Tahoe, Shaqwan Tisdale, 25, of Levittown, Pa., and 8-year-old Mellady Durante remain in the hospital in stable condition.  Jamella Tisdale, 25, was killed, along with 9-year-old Jaevon Durante and Jaden Tisdale, who was three and a half months old.
