South Brunswick Police, EMS Save 26-Year-Old Woman Who Used Heroin

Two South Brunswick police officers, EMS and paramedics helped save the life of a 26 year old woman who had just used heroin on Thursday, said Chief Raymond Hayducka.

At 11:48 a.m. police received a 911 call reporting a woman had collapsed on a sidewalk off Henderson Road. Within four minutes South Brunswick Officer Scott Bucca and South Brunswick EMS EMT Petra Krajnak and EMT Sean McLaughlin arrived to find the victim not breathing and without a heartbeat.

The team worked together to perform CPR. Officer Joseph Rausch arrived and learned the victim had just used heroin moments before she collapsed.

EMS and officers continued CPR for 20 minutes until paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital arrived on scene. The victim was in the rear of the ambulance when paramedics administered Narcan.

The victim almost immediately began to breath on her own. She began to speak and asked what had happened. She was transported to the hospital for further treatment.

Hayducka credited the fast response and quick action of the officers and EMS with saving the young woman’s life.

“This incident could have ended in tragedy if not for officers and EMS quickly starting CPR and paramedics administering the life saving drug quickly,” he said.
