South Brunswick PD Still Looking For 'Gas Company' Impostor Who Robbed Couple

From South Brunswick police:

South Brunswick Police are still investigating a theft Monday, March 10 in which suspects scammed an elderly couple.

At just before 2pm a Kendall Park couple in their 80’s reported a male came to their front door on Savage Road. The man explained a neighbor was having a fence installed and he was from the gas company.

He said he needed them to come outside to show where the work was going to be conducted. He led the couple to their backyard and spoke with them for fifteen minutes. He then returned to the front of the house and got into a white car that was parked in the home owner’s driveway. The couple said the vehicle was not in the driveway when they first went into the back yard.

After the man left, the wife went inside her home and observed her purse was open and money missing. She went to their bedroom and observed it to be ransacked.

The suspects stole a large amount of antique silver handcrafted jewelry valued at $50,000. The wife had made much of the jewelry over a forty year span. It is believed that a second suspect entered the victim's home while they were in the backyard and stole the items.The suspect used the victim’s pillowcase to carry the jewelry from the home.

The victims only saw one suspect and he is described as follows;

He was wearing dark clothing with a black baseball cap with white lettering “GAP”.

The suspect’s vehicle was described as being an older white four door.

The victims never saw the second suspect who is believed to have entered the home.

Anyone with information is asked to call South Brunswick Police at (732) 329-4646.
