Slackwood Firefighters Respond to Deadly Crash

One person was killed in the collision in Ewing Township Friday night.

Rescuers from Lawrence Township's Slackwood Volunteer Fire Co. were among the emergency personnel who were called to the scene of a deadly collision at the intersection of Parkside Avenue and Parkway Avenue in Ewing Township Friday night (Nov. 4).

One of the vehicles involved in the collision ended up on its side. At least one person was killed and several others were hurt in the accident, which happened about 9 p.m.

Also on the scene were Ewing Township's Prospect Heights, Pennington Road and West Trenton fire companies, Ewing Township police, emergency medical personnel from Ewing and elsewhere, and representatives of the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office and the Mercer County Medical Examiner's Office.

Update: The following news release was issued by Ewing Township police.

At 2050 hours on 11/04/11 a fatal motor vehicle crash occurred on Parkway Avenue at Parkside Avenue. Albert Peoples, a Trenton resident, was operating a green Ford Explorer east on Parkway Avenue. As the Explorer entered the intersection of Parkside Avenue, the explorer struck a black Hyundai Elantra being driven by Diane Cottman. The Hyundai was making a left turn off of northbound Parkside Avenue onto westbound Parkway Avenue. After impact, the explorer began to violently spin out of control and overturning onto a third vehicle, a gold Toyota Solara being driven by Shelby Jones. The Toyota had been stopped westbound on Parkway Avenue at Parkside Avenue. Albert Peoples was pronounced at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
