Scammer Bilks Lawrence Resident of $79K

According to Lawrence Township Police, an elderly woman received a phone call from a man who told her she won $2.9 million in Worldwide State Lottery.

A Lawrence resident was scammed out of $79,000 after a man called her and told her she won the lottery. 

According to Lawrence Township Police, an elderly woman received a phone call from a man who told her she won $2.9 million in Worldwide State Lottery. However, the man said she had to pay legal fees and taxes before she could claim the prize. 

The resident sent $428.87 through Green Dot Money Pack, but then the man kept calling back and asking for more money. Between Oct. 26 and Nov. 25, she sent a total of $79,000.

Police said some of the payments were sent to Florida.
